Switzerland has the highest number of new skin cancer cases in Europe. Each year, an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 people are diagnosed with non-melanoma skin cancer, and about 3,200 with melanoma (malignant melanoma). Melanoma is the fifth most common type of cancer, causing about 300 deaths each year. About one-fifth of people diagnosed with melanoma are younger than 50 at the time of diagnosis.
